Siksika Nation Indian Residential School (IRS) Info Session

(September 9, 2021 – Siksika Nation) Siksika Nation is working with the University of Alberta to carry out the search for unmarked graves at all mission, boarding and Indian Residential School sites located in Siksika.The scope of the work will focus on the application of remote sensing, ground penetrating radar (GPR), data collection and research (oral history, survivor support, archival research, etc.)

A virtual Info session has been organized to inform Siksika Nation members of the work being done and the process of the search itself. Due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in the province, an in-person info session is not possible at this time. 

The info session will include a comprehensive presentation from Dr. Kisha Supernant, Director of the Institute of Prairie Technology with the University of Alberta. Information on how to access Indian Residential School resources and supports will also be made available by Siksika Health Services.
