Oki Siksika Members/Artists!
Calgary Arts Development is working with Treaty 7 Nations and the Métis Nation in Alberta on a public art initiative rooted in reconciliation and cultural revitalization. The program aims to build long-term relationships with Indigenous communities and support the development of Indigenous-led public art in Calgary.
The Blackfoot Confederacy Initiative is a community-led project that centres Indigenous voices, knowledge, and vision. Through conversations, surveys, and gatherings, Blackfoot community members are invited to share their experiences of Calgary/Mohkinsstsis — the land, the stories, the moments that matter — to help shape public art rooted in truth, culture, and community.
Guided by members from Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, and Amskapi Piikani Nations, this work will directly inform future public art initiatives and create lasting space for Indigenous stories in the city.
