Oki,
Chief and Council were deeply saddened to learn of the theft of the RCMP Lodge (Tipi) from the Siksika Nation Powwow grounds. The Lodge was removed from its poles sometime between 11:00 p.m. on June 29, 2026, and 7:00 a.m. on June 30, 2026.
On behalf of Siksika Nation, we extend our sincere apologies to the RCMP and all those affected by this incident. The RCMP Lodge was far more than a structure—it was transferred to the RCMP through proper cultural protocols and symbolized a renewed relationship based on friendship, mutual respect, trust, and healing. Its presence at our Powwow reflected our shared commitment to reconciliation and partnership.
Following consultation with our Elders and Grandparents, we join them in strongly condemning this theft. They have expressed that the removal of a properly transferred RCMP Lodge does not reflect the values, honour, or conduct expected under our traditional warrior teachings. Acts of this nature were historically carried out openly, with witnesses and with accountability, not in secrecy. Remaining quiet about the act is not proper or honorable.
Our teachings call on us to act with honesty, respect, responsibility, and integrity. The actions of those responsible do not represent these values or the views of our Nation.
We urge anyone with information about the theft or the Lodge’s whereabouts to come forward. Even the smallest detail may help secure its safe return. To those involved, we encourage you to do the honourable thing by returning the Lodge. Accepting responsibility and making amends is a sign of strength and dignity.
This situation presents an opportunity for restorative justice. Those responsible can make amends and be heard through our cultural protocols. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Siksika RCMP Detachment or Siksika Peace Officers. All information will be handled appropriately.
We want to assure our RCMP partners that this isolated incident will not define our relationship. Siksika Nation remains committed to strengthening our partnership through mutual respect, cooperation, and reconciliation.
Let us come together to resolve this matter in a way that reflects the values, teachings, and character of our Nation.
