FUNNEL CLOUD ADVISORY – June 7, 2026

Oki, Siksika.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Siksika Nation region.

Conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds early this afternoon through this evening. These funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground.

However, there is a chance this rotation could intensify into a weak landspout tornado.

Landspout tornadoes do not usually cause significant damage but can still be dangerous. They can be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs, or toss debris for short distances.

If you see funnel clouds form in the clouds, prepare to seek shelter. If you see a landspout tornado, seek shelter in the smallest room in your house, away from windows (glass), preferably in your basement.
