Snow Storm Advisory – April 15, 2026

Oki Siksika,

A significant winter storm is currently impacting the Nation, and we are receiving reports of intermittent power and internet interruptions across several sectors. Conditions include heavy snow and reduced visibility, which are expected to persist throughout the day.

To ensure your household remains safe and connected during these interruptions, please consider the following recommendations:

Power & Device Readiness

  • Charge Now: Ensure all cell phones, laptops, and tablets are charged to 100% immediately.
  • External Power: If you have portable power banks or external batteries, ensure they are fully topped up in case the outage becomes long-term.
  • Conserve Battery: Switch your devices to “Low Power Mode” and reduce screen brightness to extend battery life if the power goes out.

Home & Safety Preparations

  • Flashlights Ready: Keep flashlights or headlamps in an easily accessible location. Check your batteries now.
  • Keep It Closed: If the power goes out, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain food safety.
  • Stay Warm: If you lose heat, gather in a central room and use blankets or extra layers. Never use outdoor heating equipment (such as propane heaters) or charcoal grills indoors due to carbon monoxide risks.

If you require assistance during a power outage, contact Siksika Public Safety at 403-734-3815.

Stay safe, stay warm, and exercise caution if you must be outdoors. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
