Solid Waste

The Solid Waste team is made up of certified heavy equipment operators, including Class 1 and 3 drivers. The service area provides solid waste collection and management of domestic waste via three collection systems: community blue bins, large items, and black totes.

We are equipped with Garbage Trucks, Skid Steers, Backhoes, Flat Decks, and Trailer Units to assist in all operations associated with the removal of domestic garbage and large items on the Nation.

The solid waste systems are based on the current Transfer Station capabilities, which are used to temporarily store debris until they are hauled to a landfill for final disposal.

The Siksika Public Works department obtained the Alberta Recycling Management Authority certification, and it is in the process of developing recycling protocols for mattresses, electronics, metal, construction materials, oil, and others.

Please note that the Solid Waste team and its Transfer Station are only equipped to manage domestic waste. Industrial and commercial solid waste generators must contact the Public Works to arrange for appropriate solid waste management at an applicable cost.

Solid Waste Collection

We provide non-hazardous solid waste collection, recycling and landfill disposal services to commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers.

Residents are required to contain all solid waste in garbage bags. If domestic waste is not properly bagged in situations where equipment is compromised and not available, staff will not be able to collect garbage by hand due to the extreme risks associated with these practices. Please make sure all needles are properly capped for safe disposal.

What happens to items that are not allowed in bins and black totes? Please drop these items off at the Waste Transfer Station for proper handling and disposal.
