The 2026 Bison Harvest has Concluded!

Oki Siksika!

Siksika Nation’s 2026 Bison Harvest, set to take place Oct. 31-Nov. 5, officially concluded on Monday, Nov. 2, after hunters successfully harvested niiookska iiniiksi (three bison).

Two Apex shots were fired by Siksika hunters Ryan Alexson and Jarrett Pretty Young Man. Alexson’s shot impacted two bison, and the second iinii was later harvested by Tryse Black.

While initially reported as a Public Works event, this harvest was facilitated through Siksika Governance and Consultation in partnership with Parks Canada to support Siksika Treaty hunting rights and reaffirm the Blackfoot peoples’ historic connection to the Banff area.

Siksika Nation extends sincere appreciation to the Governance and Consultation team, including Melissa Dixon, Cedric Solway, Scotty Many Guns, Stacie Calf Robe, and Michael Ferguson, for their leadership and dedication in facilitating this year’s harvest.

Wendell Calf Robe also extends his gratitude to Siksika Nation Public Works and its Manager, Lyle Breaker; Siksika Fire & Rescue, including Director of Emergency Services & EMS Manager Tom Littlechild and Deputy Fire Chief Tim Calf Robe; Siksika Media; Heather Black of Buffalo Stone Woman Outfitters; Joel Wolf Leg; JKL Trail Rides; and Siksika Nation Chief Samuel Crowfoot for supporting our hunters in the cold mountain conditions.

“I would like to acknowledge the active participants of this successful hunt!” – Wendell Calf Robe.

“We did everything very traditional, from smudging in the mornings each day to tobacco offerings before and after the kills. It was awesome to be a part of the Siksika Buffalo Harvest, me and my brothers are super grateful for everything!” – Ryan Alexson
