Siksika Nation Hosted the Blackfoot Confederacy Conference at the Mohkinstsis Westin Airport on Sept. 21- 23, 2026. The three-day event was memorable as we gathered with our relatives and sister tribes across The Blackfoot Confederacy.
This year, the conference theme focused on 150 years of Treaty 7. The agenda was filled with panels presenting on the Treaty: Inaistsiiyisin (Making a Sacred Agreement), People with Developmental Disabilities Joint Litigation updates.
The day two banquet included the Blackfoot Film Screening and filmmaker discussion Kiitokii, “The origin of the Prairie Chicken dance” Presented by Jeanette Many Guns. In addition to the screen, we also go to enjoy Itseetamapi: A young Blackfoot woman with an unexplained connection to the spirit world struggles to understand her gift as a dark presence begins drawing closer, threatening to overwhelm her life. Presented by Adam Solway.
Day three’s keynote speaker was Bob Joseph, author of ’21 things you didn’t know about the Indian act.’ Panels on the Indian Act registration, Blood quantum and Blackfoot sovereignty. Addtional discussions were held on AI in Blackfoot territory and Alberta separatism
The conference ended with a transfer ceremony, the Siksika Nation Chief Samuel Crowfoot transferred the Blackfoot Confederacy Buffalo Robe and the drum to Amskapi Piikuni Chairman Terry Tasty.
The Amskapi Piikuni will host the 2027 Blackfoot Confederacy Conference.
