Weather Advisory – Dec. 17 (Updated)

Oki Siksika 

There is a weather advisory in place for the Siksika Nation region: Thirty per cent chance of rain showers early this morning.  

Periods of rain beginning this morning changing to periods of snow and blowing snow near noon. Risk of freezing rain this morning and early this afternoon.  

Local snowfall amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind south 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming northwest 60 gusting to 100 this morning. Temperature falling to minus 12 this afternoon. Wind chill minus 25 this afternoon.  

Please refrain from outdoor work and travel on highways.  Keep warm everyone! 

UPDATE:

An update to the earlier advisory. 

This current winter storm is being forecast to last until approximately 6:00 PM today. Area highways are experiencing very low visibility due to the blowing snow, and the windchill is varying.   

Please refrain from traveling on Nation roads and highways, and if you are traveling, please ensure your windows are appropriately cleared and your headlights are on.  

It is recommended that you activate your hazard flashers as well to increase visibility of your vehicle.
