Siksika Nation is seeking Siksika Elders who are interested and willing to share oral history to help direct our Nation’s Treaty Annuities Litigation Strategy. We are hosting a meeting to share information about the initiative, and to hear from our Elders and Nation members about experiences and knowledge of this matter.

The Blackfoot Treaty includes a promise by Canada to pay $5 to each Siksika member, in addition to $15 for Councillors, and $25 for the Chief. These are called the “Annuities Promises”. But the value of $5 has decreased over time. This lawsuit seeks compensation for Canada’s failure to increase annuity payments for inflation, and to require future payments to match inflation.
