RISING RIVER ADVISORY – May 31, 2026

Oki, Siksika!

You may have noticed the rising level and increased flow speed of the Bow River. The Bow River between Carseland and Bassano is currently running higher and faster than usual due to seasonal upstream runoff.

Increased rain and heavy snowpack melting in the mountains have led to increased volume in the Bow River. Because the water is moving at an increased pace, riverbanks are muddy and unstable, currents are strong enough to easily knock you off your feet, and local creeks are backing up into low-lying areas.

For your safety, please keep a safe distance from the water’s edge, keep pets on a leash, and save the boating or floating for another weekend until the water levels settle back down. Siksika Emergency Management is monitoring the situation, and at this time there does not exist an approaching danger of flooding.

Report any dangerous conditions to Siksika Nation Public Safety at 403-734-3815. For emergencies, call 911.

Stay safe, Siksika!

Kiitakitamaatsin!
