Siksika Nation Release Four Approved Policies to Support Housing, Infrastructure, and Land Management

NEW APPROVED POLICIES:

Oki Siksika,

Siksika Nation is pleased to announce the community-wide release of four recently approved policies that will help guide decision-making, service delivery, and community development across the Nation. The policies include the Public Works Policy, Land Use Policy Amendment, Rental Housing Policy Amendment, and Affordable Home Purchase Policy.

These policies were approved by Ohkinniinaa ki Ninaaiks on June 18, 2026, and are now available for Siksika’i’koan to review.

Sharing these policies marks an important step in ensuring that Siksika’i’koan, administration, and leadership have clear and consistent guidance regarding housing programs, land management, and public works services. Siksika Nation is undertaking a phased rollout process that includes community information sharing, education, and opportunities for questions and discussion.

What Do the Policies Cover?

Public Works Policy: The Public Works Policy provides direction for the management, operation, and maintenance of community infrastructure and public works services. It helps clarify roles, responsibilities, and expectations related to public infrastructure within Siksika Nation.

Land Use Policy Amendment: The Land Use Policy was originally approved in 2022. This Amendment updates how land management decisions are considered and administered. The policy is intended to support consistent decision-making and provide greater clarity around land use processes and requirements.

Rental Housing Policy Amendment: The Rental Housing Policy was originally approved in 2024. The Amendment provides updated guidance for Nation-owned rental housing. The policy helps clarify housing administration processes, responsibilities, and expectations for tenants and administrators.

Affordable Home Purchase Policy: The Affordable Home Purchase Policy formalizes the previous ‘Dollar Home Program.’ The AHPP establishes a fair, transparent process for eligible Siksika’i’koan to purchase previously Nation-owned homes requiring major renovations for $1.00. The policy outlines requirements, processes, and expectations related to participation in the program.

Why These Policies Matter?

These policies matter because they help Siksika’i’koan understand what services and resources are available, how decisions are made, and what rules apply across the Public Works, Land Management and Housing Departments. By setting out clear, transparent, and consistent processes, the policies support fair and equitable access to housing programs, public works services, and land management processes. They also reflect Siksika-led decision-making by putting Siksika-created rules in place to guide how important community services and resources are managed now and into the future.
