Chief and Council organize a community information session on the TOPGAS and OMAC Specific Claim

Chief and Council present at Community Information Session

On November 1st, 2023 Siksika Nation Chief and Council organized a community information session at the Siksika Piikapsi Memorial Arbour to provide information on the TOPGAS and OMAC Specific Claim.

In a statement released by Chief and Council in October 2023, the claim relates to Canada’s collection of royalties for gas produced on Siksika’s Reserve. The Claim alleges that Canada breached its fiduciary and statutory duties in collecting royalties for gas produced on the Reserve.

Siksika seeks equitable compensation for the financial losses arising from Canada’s failure to collect all the royalties owing to Siksika for gas produced on the Reserve and the loss of use of those royalties.

Due to the amount of the settlement, no referendum is required. The community meeting provided Nation members information and answered any questions they had for leadership. Legal counsel was also available and on-site for the meeting.
