Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here are some common questions we receive, and some explanations about what we are doing about them.
This is one of the most common questions we receive. Many boarded-up homes were abandoned, often due to their poor condition. Unfortunately, nearly all of these homes require significant repairs before they can be safely lived in again. We are actively working on a plan to repair and allocate these homes. While progress takes time, we are committed to reducing the number of vacant homes and ensuring they meet safety and livability standards.
We understand how upsetting this can be. In some cases, emergencies such as sudden homelessness, domestic violence, health crises, or other urgent situations require us to prioritize housing for those in immediate need. Each emergency is assessed individually, and we work closely with family and health services to provide support.
We recognize the importance of addressing these emergencies while continuing to work through the waitlist. To further support the community, we are assisting in the construction of a women’s shelter on the Nation. This shelter will provide critical resources and temporary housing for mothers and children facing crises, helping to alleviate pressure on the housing waitlist.
We sometimes receive emergency requests for housing. These requests include sudden homelessness, domestic violence, health crises, or other issues. Housing assesses each situation independently and works with family and health services to explore all options. Sometimes, we allocate a home due to these emergencies to respond to the crisis at-hand.
This is why we are helping to support the construction of a women’s shelter on the Nation, which will provide much needed resources for mothers and children who need housing and services.
Yes, you can—if you receive prior approval from Housing. To begin the process, you’ll need to provide:
- A detailed quote for materials and labor.
- The name(s) of the contractor(s) you plan to hire.
Send your request, including these documents, to housing@siksikanation.com, and we’ll review it as soon as possible. Approval ensures your renovation meets our safety and quality standards while protecting your home and investment.
