Siksika Nation Seeks Community Input on Cemetery Upgrade Project

Public Notice

Siksika Public Works, in collaboration with the Arcadis team, is embarking on an important initiative to enhance and beautify the eleven cemeteries within the Nation.

The Cemetery Upgrade Project will begin with a pilot phase at Crowfoot Cemetery, with planned improvements including:

  • Parking facilities
  • Pathways
  • Lighting
  • Fencing
  • Landscaping

The goal is to create welcoming, functional spaces that honor Siksika heritage and values.

Community Engagement & Feedback

Arcadis, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, is developing a Concept Plan for the Crowfoot Cemetery. This long-term blueprint will reflect community priorities and ensure that traditions, ceremonies, and cultural values remain at the heart of the project.

To gather valuable community input, Arcadis has launched a questionnaire to better understand the following:

Important cultural elements in Siksika burial ceremonies

  • Access and transportation needs
  • Plot selection and organization
  • Landscaping preferences
  • Commemoration features such as memorials or plaques
