Project: West Regional Wastewater System Study

Project Overview:

Siksika Nation’s Engineering Services has hired ISL Engineering and Land Services (ISL) to complete a study for a new regional wastewater system on the community’s west side. The project is needed because the current system has minimal to no remaining capacity and is reaching its end of life. To ensure that the system continues to serve the community’s wastewater collection and disposal needs, a new unified system must be planned, designed, and constructed.

ISL has been working with the Nation’s Engineering Services team over the past few months to conduct technical research to develop location options for a new wastewater facility.

Now, the Project Team is ready and excited to share the wastewater options that are being considered with the community and gather feedback on the proposed sites.

The proposed upgrades to the wastewater system include:
• Removing up to six existing lift stations ·
• Upgrading the existing remaining lift stations ·
• Constructing new sewage trunk lines connecting West End, Stobart, North Camp, and Townsite to the pristine new treatment facility·

Engagement Process:

Community feedback is essential in choosing the best location for the new wastewater facility to ensure it meets the needs of residents and does not negatively affect culturally significant areas of the Nation. To capture feedback from elders, knowledge keepers, interested parties, and the community, meetings with the Elders Advisory Panel and Leadership will be conducted and community engagement opportunities, including open houses and online and paper surveys.

Proposed Wastewater Facility Options:

The Project Team looks forward to sharing information about the project with community members in the coming weeks and hearing what community members think about the proposed wastewater sites.
